The Australian Federal Government planned to operate the Australian Agriculture Visa from the 21st of September 2021. The visa will come in addition to the existing Seasonal Worker Program and Pacific Labour Scheme.
The Australian Agriculture Visa is dedicated to farming, fisheries and forestry sectors that have been affected by the pandemic. The Australian Federal Government also includes pathways towards permanent residency and regional resettlement to this visa.

Targeted countries for the new visa
The Australian Federal Government is targeting the Australian agriculture visa for Pacific and Southeast Asian workers.

Australian Agriculture visa in COVID-19 pandemic
In July 2021, the Australian Federal Government implemented a passenger cap to limit the number of international travellers to Australia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the condition, the Australian Federal Government and the Australian states and territories government are still ensuring workforce needs can be met while abiding by the strict caps on international arrivals.
It is possible for the agriculture workers to be required to complete on-farm or in-country quarantine as a safe way to bring them to Australia.
