Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the Australian Government, through the Australian Border Police, has introduced stringent border controls for international flights. The reason for the Australian international ban is to protect the Australian population from the pandemic.
According to Tourism Minister Dan Tehan, foreign tourists spent $45 billion a year in Australia before Coronavirus, which makes tourism Australia’s fourth largest exporting industry which created 666,000 jobs or about five percent of the workforce. With this reason, the Tourism Minister stated that Australia expects to finally open up its border to International Tourists next year.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tehan said that the government is considering setting up travel bubbles with low risk countries such as New Zealand, Singapore and ‘potentially with Japan, if they can get the virus under control again.’ Additionally, if the Australian Government can get the vaccine rollout underway, it means that Australia will be in a very good position to get visitors back into the country and to help the economy and employment post COVID-19 recovery.
