Changes to Graduate Visa 485 2015

Australian immigration just implemented a new changes to Graduate Visa 485 2015.

Applicants will no longer be required to supply overseas police clearance certificates from each country they have lived in for 12 months or more in the past 10 years for the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa.

If you are over the age of 16 you will only be required to supply a police clearance certificate if the Department of Immigration and Border Protection requests that you obtain one.

If you have already lodged your application and have been asked by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to supply a police clearance certificate than you will still be required to do so unless they specifically request that one is not required.

There has been no change to the requirement of an Australian Federal Police (AFP) check.

Temporary Graduate visa 485 2015

This visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution.

 It lets you work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies.

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if you:

  • are younger than 50 years of age

  • are in Australia

  • hold an eligible visa

  • meet the two-year Australian study requirement

  • have at least competent English

  • have recently graduated with either an eligible qualification or with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the skilled occupation list (SOL).

You will need to accomplish a minimum score of 6.0 in an IELTS test across all bands.

Visa application charge: The charge for lodging this application to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP)  are as follows:

Base application charge:

AUD $1,440

Additional Applicant Charge (aged 18 and over):

AUD $720

Additional Applicant Charge (aged under 18):

AUD $360

There Temporary Graduate visa has two streams:

Graduate Work Stream:

For Graduates who’s nominated occupation is on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL)

Post-Study Work Stream:

For Graduates who’s first student visa was granted on or after the 5th November, 2011.

The benefits of the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa is that you are allowed to live and work in Australia temporarily after your studies have finished.  Whilst you are in Australia you can work, travel and study without any restrictions.
