This visa allows its holders to stay in Australia permanently. Prior to the COVID-19 Concessions, to get this visa the applicants must work as a full-time employee for at least 12 months and reside in a specified regional area in Australia for at least two years.

What Are The COVID-19 Concessions For Visa 887?

Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, a lot of Visa 887 applicants face difficulties in completing the full-time work and regional residency requirements. 

These requirements of Visa 887 are that the holders have to live for at least two years in specified regional areas of Australia and to have worked full-time for at least 12 months. 

The Visa 887 applicants are also obliged to apply for Visa 887 in Australia and hold an eligible visa. However, some of the Visa 887 applicants lost their jobs and had to go back to their home country due to COVID-19 Pandemic, forcing them to not be able to meet those requirements.

The COVID-19 Concessions for eligible Skilled Regional (subclass 887) Visa applicants are available from the 19th of September 2020 and DoHA has not decided when the concession period will end. 

The COVID-19 Concessions provide a lot of convenience for Visa 887 applicants such as allowing them to apply for the visa from their home country during the concession period. However, the applicants still need to meet some other requirements before applying for Visa 887, such as:

1. COVID-19 Concessions Eligibility for 887 Visa Applicants outside of Australia

Applicants outside of Australia can apply for Visa 887 and will be granted Visa 887 from their home country during the concession period. Some evidence that the applicants must provide are:

  • Full-time work for 9 months in a specified regional area, (or, if the Minister specifies a shorter period in a legislative instrument, that shorter period), and
  • They are residing for 18 months in a specified regional area (or, if the Minister specifies a shorter period in a legislative instrument, that shorter period).

2. COVID-19 Concessions Eligibility For 887 Visa Applicants Inside Australia

Applicants in Australia, who lodge their Visa 887 application during the concession period or within three months after the concession period ends, must provide:

  • Evidence of 9 months of full-time work in a specified regional area, and
  • Evidence of 2 years of residence in a specified regional area.
