Two New DAMA Programs Will Be Opened: Business can Access the Program in 2022!
The Australian Government signed two new DAMA Australia programs to support the regional areas in their economic recovery. The new DAMA programs will be in Goulburn Valley, Victoria and in South West, Western Australia.
The new DAMA Australia program is intended to fill critical labour shortages for business and industries aiming to support the growth of the local population and create new job opportunities.
When will this program come into effect?
What is DAMA?
DAMA Australia or Designated Area Migration Agreement is a formal agreement between the Australian Federal Government and state / territory / regional authority. The DAMA program Australia is generally in effect for five years and use the Employer-Sponsored Working Visa, such as:
- Temporary Skills Shortage (subclass 482),
- Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (subclass 494) (available in ACT and South Australia Regional DAMAs only), and
- Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186).
It means you must be sponsored by an employer operating in a designated region, and you must work for an occupation specified in the head agreement.

Proposed New DAMA Program in Victoria and Western Australia
There are two new DAMA programs proposed to be available in 2022. The new DAMA programs will [be located in Victoria and Western Australia, specifically in Goulburn Valley, Victoria and South West, Western Australia.
DAMA Program in Goulburn Valley, Victoria
The Australian Government agrees to support a new DAMA program in Goulburn Valley, Victoria, after looking at the significant positive impact in parts of Australia that have implemented the DAMA program.
The DAMA program will enable local businesses to hire suitably skilled workers abroad in various occupations, allowing them to expand their staff to meet their production needs.
The Goulburn Valley region, which is bordered on the south by the Great Dividing Range and on the north by the Murray River, industry is primarily farming and includes large retail, manufacturing, and tourism businesses.
The Greater Shepparton City Council will oversee the Goulburn Valley DAMA application process, open to businesses in the Greater Shepparton, Moira, and Campaspe local government regions.
The local business can apply individually to access the DAMA program from 2022.
DAMA Program in South West, Western Australia
The Australian Government also agreed to support a new DAMA program in South West, Western Australia. The new DAMA program is expected to expedite growth in Dardanup and South West, Western Australia. Additionally, the regional towns will have a chance to fill gaps in their labour market, and overseas skilled workers can secure employment in some of the most beautiful parts of Western Australia.
This agreement allows for a limited ability to access more foreign employees than the standard skilled migration program, with concessions and changes tailored to the South West labour market. The DAMA enables employers to bring in skilled workers under the Temporary Skill Shortage and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visas labour agreement streams, which may provide a pathway to permanent residency, benefiting the South West region in the long run in both business and community.

- City of Busselton
- City of Bunbury
- Shire of Cape
- Shire of Collie
- Shire of Augusta/Margaret River
- Shire of Boyup Brook
- Shire of Bridgetown/Greenbushes
- Shire of Dardanup
- Shire of Donnybrook/Balingup
- Shire of Harvey
- Shire of Manjimup
- Shire of Nannup
The local business can apply individually to access the DAMA program from 2022.
