DAMA Program Western Australia Update 2021

What is the DAMA Program?

A Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is a five-year formal agreement between Australian Government and a Designated Area Representative (DAR). The program was first introduced in 2019. The Designated Area Representative is the regional, state or territory authority.

DAMA Programs fall under the Labour Agreement stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482), the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (Subclass 186) or the Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 494). What is special about the program is that not only it provides a pathway to permanent residency, it also offers English, salary, and age concessions for some occupations. As of today, there are 7 active DAMA programs:

  1. Northern Territory DAMA;
  2. The Goldfields DAMA, WA;
  3. Great South Coast DAMA, Victoria;
  4. Adelaide City Technology and Innovation Advancement;
  5. South Australia Regional DAMA;
  6. Orana DAMA, New South Wales;
  7. Far North Queensland DAMA.

What is the Goldfields DAMA Program?

The Goldfields DAMA Region is the agreement between Australian Federal Government and Western Australia state government represented by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and several Shires (Coolgardie, Dundas, Esperance, Leonora, Menzies, and Ravensthorpe).

The purpose of the program is to address skill and labour shortages of the respective region by attracting skilled migrants to live and work there. Skilled migrants must be sponsored by businesses in the region under the agreement and cannot apply the program by themselves.
