This October 2020, Australian Immigration updated the news for applicants who would like to apply for visitor visas. On its COVID-19 and Borders page, the Department of Home Affairs reminds us that the Australian government still applies strict border measures to protect the health of Australian citizens while keeping updated information regarding the visa applications.
Latest Immigration Update For Australian Visitor Visa Applicants
These updates are below:
1. Availability To Apply For ETA Visa Through The New App
Australian government still restricts any applicants to visit Australia. However, if you want to visit Australia due to some urgent reasons, the Australian government announced that the Australian Government is trialing an ETA mobile app right now. You can apply for an ETA visa through the app as long as you are eligible for an ETA visa. Even though your visitor visa application is granted, you still need to be exempted from the Australia travel restrictions. However, you need to remember that using the app incurs a non-refundable service fee as much as $20. The new ETA app can be downloaded through the Android and Apple app stores. If you have some confusion about the ETA visa, we would happily assist you. You may click here, and we will be in touch with you shortly.
2. Additional Time For Applicants Due To Disruption Of Services
Due to the COVID-19, most of the visitor visa applications’ processes are unavailable, including overseas panel doctors, English language testing facilities, biometric collections, and paper application lodgment centers. Due to the disruption, the Australian Government will provide additional time for applicants to provide the necessary documents. With the additional time given, you don’t need to worry about what is happening to your visitor visa application. 3. Medical Examination Appointment
Since the medical services for Australian visas are disrupted, My Health Declaration is temporarily suspended. Once you lodge your visa, The Department of Immigration will ask you to complete the medical examination if needed. The applicant does not need to inform My Health Declaration or Australian Immigration Officers if the medical appointment is being rescheduled. The applicant also does not need to contact visa medical clinic services in Australia or other countries if the applicant has not lodged any visa application or has not been requested to take an immigration medical examination.
4. Biometrics Collection Appointment
Australia Immigration will gradually resume biometrics collection at some existing biometrics location, starting from 19 October 2020. However, the resumption of AVAC or ABCC as the official location would depend on each country’s circumstances. In order to make an appointment regarding the biometrics collection, you need to make sure they are already opened, and use the existing Requirement to provide personal identifiers (biometric) letter (you may find this letter in your ImmiAccount if you have applied for a visa). It is not necessary to contact the Department of Home Affairs if the local collection service is temporarily closed or your location is being locked down.
