Announcement For Temporary Work Skilled Visas : TODAY the Government stated that 457 visas were to be abolished
Mr. Peter Dutton, the Minister for Immigration, has a announcement for temporaray work skilled visas. It’s indicated in his statements that there will a temporary skills shortage subclass of visa with two streams – a short term stream and a medium term stream.
The Prime Minister of Australia has made public today, through the announcement for temporary work skilled visa that they are abolishing the 457 visas.
These visas are to be replaced with a completely new subclass of visa with more requirements added into it, including:
- Previous work experience
- Better English Language skills
- Labour Market testing
A new training fund is also expected to be established as soon as possible.
Mr. Peter Dutton, the Minister for Immigration, has indicated in his statements that there will a temporary skills shortage subclass of visa with two streams – a short term stream and a medium term stream.
The short term stream will most likely be a 2 year visa with no permanent residency outcome at the end of the visa or the medium stream, which will be for workers with higher skill qualifications and will have a shorter skills occupation list, but will be for a period of 4 years.
This stream will be able to be applied for onshore or offshore.
There will be big changes undergone for the skilled occupation lists used for skilled migration to Australia. This will include for subclass 457 visa commencing from the 19th of April 2017.
If you currently hold a 457 visa, there will be grandfathering arrangements and your conditions on your visa will stand.
The Minister also mentioned changes to the labour market testing and work experience.
They are beginning the work to implement these changes immediately and they will be completed in March of 2018.
