Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List – Updated 2024
The Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) lists skilled occupations determined by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and the Department of Home Affairs. The occupations listed on MLTSSL include those list as priority occupations for skilled migrant in Australia, too. Currently, the MLTSSL list includes 212 occupations.
This list complements both the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL). These three lists combine to produce the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

Introduction to Medium & Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
The MLTSSL List is relevant to those who:
- Receive an invitation:
- on or after 11 March 2019 to apply for a Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189).
- on or after 11 December 2019 to apply for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa – Family Sponsored.
- Receive a nomination by a State or Territory government and an invitation:
- on or after 11 March 2019 to apply for Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190).
- on or after 11 March 2019 to apply for a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa – State or Territory nominated stream.
- Apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) on or after 11 March 2019.
Eligible Australian Skilled Visa for MLTSSL List
If your occupation appears on the MLTSSL List, you can apply for one of the following Australian work visa:
- Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (subclass 186)
- Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189)
- Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)
- Training Visa (subclass 407)
- Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) – Post Vocational Education Work stream (previously Graduate Work stream)
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa
- Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) – Medium Term stream
- Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) Visa
