The state of Western Australia is the largest in size of eight states and territories across Australia. The region is home to the famous Australian mining boom and is extremely popular with overseas workers. The Western Australian Department of Training & Workforce Development has commenced review on its current State Skilled Occupation List.
The new Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List (WASMOL) is expected for release during the month of October.
‘The criteria for State nomination are currently under review. The 2012/2013 criteria will remain in effect until further notice. Notification will be provided on the migration portal at least 15 business days prior to implementation of the new criteria,’ a spokesman of the Department said.
To be invited for application for state nomination, your nominated occupation must be listed on the current State Skilled Occupation List.

Each state and territory has their own Skilled Occupation List consisting of occupations accepted for state nomination and sponsorship in each state, respectively.
It is important to keep a watchful eye on the State Skilled Occupation List when planning your migration to Australia to ensure that your occupation would entitle you eligible for state nomination and sponsorship.
If your occupation is currently not listed on one State Skilled Occupation List, your occupation may be listed on another state or territory occupation list.
If your occupation is not eligible for State Skilled Migration, you may still be eligible for different types of working visas.
