New Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482)
The new Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482) will officially replace the TSS 482 Visa on 7 December 2024. Here are some details of the Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482) you should know about:
Requirements
The most significant requirement is that you only need 1 year of full-time work experience to be eligible for the Skills In Demand Visa. You must have obtained the work experience within five years before the application date for the visa.
Visa Streams
There are three visa streams under the Skills in Demand (subclass 482):
1. Specialist Skills stream
This stream has no occupation list, but the following occupations are excluded:
- Trades workers,
- Machine operators,
- Drivers, and
- Labourers
This pathway requires you to gain annual earnings of at least AUD 135,000, indexed annually. There will be priority processing within a 7-day median visa processing time.
2. Core Skills stream
This stream will use the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), meaning your occupation must be on CSOL to be eligible for this pathway.
You must also earn at least AUD 73,150 annually.
3. Labour Agreement stream
This stream is for specialised agreements with employers, providing a unique opportunity for those who have secured employment through a specific agreement to apply for the Skills in Demand Visa.

Pathway to Permanent Residents
The pathway to permanent residency is available for all Skills in Demand Visa applicants. The eligible path is through the Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186) Visa – Temporary Resident Transition stream. This means that all sponsored employment durations are eligible to count toward permanent residency, providing a clear pathway to settling in Australia.
