Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) – Updated 2024

There are 215 occupations listed on the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). STSOL is part of the Skilled Occupation (SOL) in Australia, together with the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL).

Introduction to Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)

The Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) is relevant to those who:

  • Receive a nomination and invitation by a State or Territory government agency:
    • On or after 11 March 2019 to apply for a Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) Visa.
    • On or after 11 December 2019 to apply for a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa – State or Territory nomination stream.

Update: Australian PR Pathway for Occupations on STSOL

As of November 2023, the Australian government has amended the PR pathway for those whose occupation is on STSOL list. The changes provide a more flexible PR pathway, especially for the Short-term stream of the TSS 482 Visa because employers can now nominate their employees under the Short-term TSS 482 Visa for permanent residence under the 186 visa if:

  • The employee is in Australia for at least 12 months between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021,
  • The employee meets the general 186 Visa requirements for the Temporary Residence Transition stream.

Eligible Australian Skilled Visa for STSOL

If your occupation is listed on the Short Term Skill Occupation List (STSOL), you are eligible to apply for one of the following Australian skilled visa:

  • Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)
  • Training Visa (subclass 407)
  • Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) – Short-term stream
  • Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) Visa
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa – State or Territory nominated stream
  • Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) – Temporary Residence Transition stream
