Updated Skilled Migration Program in Western Australia for 2021-2022 Program Year
On 5 July 2021, the Government of Western Australia updated its Skilled Migration Program for the year 2021-2022. The updated information includes SMOL Schedule 1, SMOL Schedule 2, Graduate Stream Requirements and Minimum English Language Requirements.

Updated Western Australia Skilled Migration Occupation List
The Government of Western Australia updated its Skilled Migration Occupation List Schedule 1 and Schedule 2. Along with the update, the Government added many occupations to WASMOL (Western Australia Skilled Migration Occupation List). Each schedule will have different experience requirements. Below is the occupation listed in WA SMOL Schedule 1 along with the requirements.

Occupation listed and Requirements in WA SMOL Schedule 1
The Government of Western Australia added more occupations in the medical field to WA SMOL Schedule 1. You may click here to see the updated occupation list. In addition, below are the requirements for WA SMOL Schedule 1:
- Be currently residing in Australia;
- Have an occupation listed as available and eligible for the intended visa subclass on the WA SMOL Schedule 1;
- Be able to claim and give evidence of work experience in the EOI (Expression of Interest). This requirement can be met through:
- At least one year of Australian work experience in the nominated (or closely related) occupation in the past 10 years, or
- At least three years of overseas work experience in the nominated (or closely related) occupation in the past 10 years
- Meet the minimum English language requirements;
- Have a contract of employment for full time employment for at least 12 months in Western Australia in the nominated or closely related occupation.
Occupation Listed and Requirements in WA SMOL Schedule 2
If your occupation is listed in WA SMOL Schedule 2, then you must meet different requirements. You may click here to see the WA SMOL Schedule 2 occupation list. In addition, the requirements for WA SMOL Schedule 2 are:
- Be currently residing in Australia;
- Have an occupation listed as available and eligible for the intended visa subclass on the WA SMOL Schedule 2;
- Meet the minimum English language requirements;
- Have a contract of employment for full time employment of at least 12 months in Western Australia in the nominated or closely related occupation.
Graduate Stream Requirements for Skilled Migration Program in WA
The Government of Western Australia also updated its Skilled Migration Program through Graduate Stream, especially on its requirements. Below are the updated requirements for Skilled Migration Program (Graduate Stream) in WA:
- Be currently residing in Australia
- Have an occupation listed as available and eligible for the intended visa subclass on the Graduate Occupation List (GOL)
- Have gained a Certificate III or Higher qualification in Western Australia, including a requirement to have completed at least two years of full-time study in Western Australia at university, higher education provider, TAFE, registered training provider or English language provider in Western Australia
- Demonstrate one of below:
- At least six months of paid work experience in Australia in the nominated or closely related occupation in the past five years, or
- A contract of full-time employment in Western Australia for at least six months in the nominated or closely related occupation.

Updated Minimum English Language Requirements
The updated minimum English Language Requirements for WA Skilled Migration Program are defined as below:
- An English language level of proficient must be obtained by candidates nominated in ANZSCO Major Occupation Group 1 (Managers) or Group 2 (Professionals) occupation; or
- For all other eligible occupations which an English language level of competent must be obtained;
- English language ability must be demonstrated by achieving the minimum English test scores in all four components in a single test as set out under English language test minimum required scores (refer to table below);
- Candidates who hold a passport form these countries:
- United Kingdom;
- Republic of Ireland;
- United States;
- Canada;
- New Zealand are not required to undertake an English proficiency test as they are considered to have met the requirement.
