Skilled Points Test Pass Mark Increased
As of 1 July 2018, the pass mark for the skilled points test has been increased to 65 points.
To recap, you may be given points for a number of reasons, including your:
- skills
- age
- English language ability
- occupation
- Australian work experience and Australian qualifications.
Other reasons such as: specialist education qualification, accredited in a community language, study in certain regional Australia or a low population growth metropolitan area, partner skill qualification, as well as professional year in Australia.
These skilled points test changes apply to all intending applicants who are interested in applying for the following visas:
- Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
- Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489).
In addition to that, the maximum age for claiming points for skilled partners has also been reduced from under 50 to under 45 years of age.
Recent amendments may also impact some state governments if you are seeking state nomination on your EOI.
Raising the threshold is done to further filter out less skilled migrants, and impacts people from all nationalities.
All of these changes are consistent with the Australian Government’s announcement on 18 April 2017 and please note that the higher your points are the better your rank would be againsts other intending migrants.
To be safe you generally need 70 to 75 points in your skilled points test results, depending on your nominated occupation and visa target.
What does this mean to you?
If you already submit an EOI thru the SkillSelect but you have not been invited yet, you will be subject to the new pass mark of 65.
Do not be alarmed, immigration makes changes all the time in order to translate their needs for skilled migrants to policy.
As long as you stay abreast of all of most recent amendments then you are good to go.
