Skilled Occupation List SOL changes 2016 2017
At the beginning of July 2016 the Australia federal government will announce the changes on its new uploaded Skilled Occupations List (SOL). This SOL changes will be for the period of 2016-2017 and will take effect onĀ 1 July 2016.
If you were wondering where the government gets their information, it comes from the Department of Education, who then passes it to the minister for immigration.
The Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL) has not been changed. The Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa, Temporary Work Skilled (subclass 457) visa, and the Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186) visa will not be affected.
The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) is used for Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa, Skilled Regional Provisional (subclass 489) visa, and the Graduate Temporary (subclass 485) visa.
When the SOL was updated for 2016-2017 a total of 115 submissions were made by different industries, employees, trade and professional representatives, and other stakeholders were received and were used to review for the new SOL.
Here is a list of SOL changes with specific occupations that are currently being sought after and in demand to be filled by professionals in their field of expertise:

- Engineers
- Lawyers
- Nurses
- ICT Business Analysts
- System Analysts
- Multimedia Specialists
- Web Developers
- Programmer
- Developer Programmer
- Software Engineer
- Software and Application Programmer
- ICT Security Specialist
- Database Administrator
- System Administrator
- Farm Workers
- Psychiatrists
- Occupational Therapists
- Psychologists
- Speech Pathologist
- Social Workers
- Surveyor
Here is a SOL changes of occupations that are being met locally or currently declining:
- Teachers (Primary)
- Environment Health Officers
- Anesthetists
- Dentists
- Dieticians
- General Practitioners
- Intensive Care Doctors
- Obstetricians
- Gynecologists
- Optometrists
- Pharmacists
- Radiographers
- Ship Engineers
- Veterinarians
In the end, there have been several occupations removed and added to the new SOL.
These are the 9 occupations removed from the SOL forĀ 1 July 2016:
- Mining Engineers (ANZSCO 233611)
- Petroleum Engineers (ANZSCO 233612)
- Metallurgist (ANZSCO 234912)
- Environmental Health Officer (ANZSCO 251311)
- Occupational Health and Safety Advisor (ANZSCO 251312)
- Dental Hygienist (ANZSCO 411211)
- Dental Prosthetist (ANZSCO 411212)
- Dental Technician (ANZSCO 411213)
- Dental Therapist (ANZSCO 411214)
There will only be 2 occupations added to the SOL for the 2016-2017 year. Which include:
- Orthotist or Prosthetist (ANZSCO 251912)
- Audiologist (ANZSCO 252711)
If your occupation is going to be removed with the new SOL, you should lodge your application prior toĀ 1 July 2016. Any application lodged beforeĀ 1 July 2016Ā will not be affected by the changes.
