Australian Government Provides Lower Student Visa Application Charge for Applicants from Pacific Islanders
On 24 February 2025, the Australian Government introduced a new regulation for Differential Student Visa Application Charge. This regulation, which is a boon for eligible Student Visa applicants from Pacific Nations and Timor Leste, replaces the previous refund arrangement. Instead of facing a high visa application charge at the time of application, the Australian Government now offers a direct fee deduction for eligible applicants, making the process more affordable and accessible.

Who is eligible for the regulation?
The lower Student Visa application charge is applicable for eligible applicants from the following countries:
- Federated States of Micronesia;
- Fiji;
- Kiribati;
- Nauru;
- Palau;
- Papua New Guinea;
- Republic of the Marshall Islands;
- Samoa;
- Solomon Islands;
- Timor-Leste;
- Tonga;
- Tuvalu;
- Vanuatu.

What are the Student Visa application charges for Pacific Nations?
The following Student Visa application charges apply to the eligible applicants from Pacific Nations:
- $710 (instead of the standard $1,600) for Primary Applicant.
- $530 (instead of $1,190) for Additional Applicants above 18.
- $175 (instead of $390) for Additional Applicants under 18.
When does the regulation apply?
The reduced Student Visa application charge for Pacific Nations and Timor Leste will apply from 22 March 2025.
Thus, eligible applicants who lodged the Student Visa application between 1 July 2024 and 21 March 2025 can still apply for the refund until 22 June 2025.
