The Recent Suspension of RSMS Perth 2017

Following the election on the 11th of March 2017, the suspension of RSMS Perth has been implemented, which has announced the following:

  • There will be a suspension of new applications to certify positions for the RSMS nominations.
  • There will now be a review of their State Nominated Migration Program and their Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List (WASMOL).
  • While this WASMOL review is going on, no new invitations to apply for WA State nomination will be able to be issued.

Following the Suspension of RSMS Perth, Is There Any Other Visa Options?

This news is only for the Regional Skilled Migration Scheme (subclass 187) visa.

You still can apply for the Temporary Skilled Work (subclass 457) visa and the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa if you would like to work in Western Australia, as this WA news update requires you to look into other options.

What are the features of this visa?

If you are a skilled worker and would like permanent residency this is the visa with those features. You would be allowed to work in Australia under of the following streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition stream
  • Direct Entry stream
  • Agreement stream.

What are the requirements to be able to be granted this visa?

You may be able to get this visa should you answer yes the all below questions:

  • Have you been nominated by an approved Australian employer?
  • Are you younger than 50 years of age? (There are exemptions.)
  • Do you meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements?  (There are exemptions.)
  • Can you apply under the stream for which you were nominated?
  • What are the typical processing times for this visa?

Seventy-five percent of applications for the direct entry pathway are proceed within 9 months’ time. Whereas, ninety percent of applications’ for this same stream is usually processed in 11 months.

Seventy-five percent of applications for the transition pathway are processed within 8 months’ time. Whereas, ninety percent of applications’ for this same stream is usually proceed in 9 months.

Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)

What are the features of this visa?

If you are a skilled worker, this visa will allow you to come to Australia to work in your nominated occupation for your approved sponsor for up to four years.

What are the requirements to be able to be granted this visa?

You may be able to get this visa if you have the following:

  • Been sponsored by an approved business
  • Have the required skills to fill a position nominated by an approved business.

What are the typical processing times for this visa?

  • 75 percent of applications are processed in 86 days
  • 90 percent of applications are processed in 6 months
