With a change of government in Australia there has also come a name change to the government department handling all visa applications.
What was the Department of Immigration & Citizenship (which could be shortened to the DIAC) is now the Department of Immigration & Border Protection (which can be shortened to DIBP).
The name change to the department was announced last Friday; the 20th of September, 2013 and has since come into formal affect.
There have been minor government department responsibility changes made. Those concerning and surrounding immigration include:
- Customs and Border Protection Services now report to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection (previously Immigration and Citizenship) and
- Settlement assistance services for migrants and humanitarian entrants to Australia have been reassigned to the Department of Social Services from the Department of Immigration & Border Protection (previously the Department of Immigration & Citizenship).
If you had lodged a visa application with the Department of Immigration & Citizenship, this change of name to the department will not affect the outcome of your application or alter your visa circumstances in any way, shape or form.
