Vocational Education & Training VET Qualifications Officially Regional PR Pathway for International Students
Since the 16th of November 2019, there have been plenty of regulation changes in Australia including additional regional areas, for instance, Perth as part of Western Australia, has become one of the regional areas. This change was introduced to attract more student visa migrants to Western Australian educational institutions and, most importantly, to apply for the latest updated skilled visas afterward.
The new regulation also affects the possibility for international students to extend their graduate visa, even though there are some specific requirements that need to be met. In relation to this, Western Australia has also updated its Graduate occupation list.
Commencing in 2018, the graduate stream offers a skilled migration pathway permanent Resident for International students graduating from universities in Western Australia.
However, starting from 9 December 2019, the graduate stream has been extended to include VET graduates, who complete a qualification in Western Australia at Certificate III level or above this level. This stream is also more accessible for international students. Furthermore, ELICOS is also counted into the two-year study requirement in Western Australia.
Popular occupations added to the list are Chef and Baker profession.
Accredited Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutions must be registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority and have a campus in Western Australia, where students study full time through face-to-face delivery. The same requirements apply for English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) provider. It has to be run by a provider in Western Australia and CRICOS-registered.
More good news, the requirements for the graduate stream is also reduced. As of 1st of December 2019, graduates only need to demonstrate either 6 month’s work experience in Western Australia or 6 month employment contract in Western Australia. Prior to this, international students needed to have 12 months or work experience and a job offer for 12 months. These updates indeed lighten the burden of some graduates who perhaps do not have 12 months’ work experience.
If you are an international student, studying in Western Australia and you are interested in a skilled migration pathway becoming Australia Permanent Resident, these new updates would be welcomed news for you. However meeting the criteria listed above is somehow not enough to gain your skilled migration visa, then you might need assistance to do so.
