Victoria State Nomination 2020/2021 Update

2020-2021 Victoria State Skilled Nomination Update

In May it was announced that the state nomination for the Victoria Government for both Skilled Nomination (Permanent) visa (Subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491) is closed since the state has filled up the previous financial year (2019-2020) allocation of state nomination places. Earlier this week, the Department of Home Affairs announced the opening of visa nomination for states, including Victoria, as they have provided a limited number of places for the current financial year (2020-2021).

It means that previous applicants who wish to reapply will be entitled to the automatic waiver that will allow them to not have to wait for six months after unsuccessful previous financial year applications. However, new policies and nomination criteria will apply for the newly open nomination batch in order to bolster the recovery of Victoria’s economy and public health response. The state will more likely be keeping its priority for occupations in critical sectors in the fight against COVID-19, especially after the state of emergency declaration last month. This doesn’t mean the other professions would not be considered as they are still needed to support the economy. Applicants are advised to re-check their eligibility and prepare all required and additional documents before submitting the new Expression of Interest (EOI).
