If applying for a Skilled Independent visa you will need to submit an “Expression of Interest” and then be invited through Skill Select and you will also need to obtain 60 points to meet the criteria and be invited to apply for the skilled visa.
If applying for a Skilled Nominated visa you require 60 points but you will be granted 5 nominated points by selecting a nominated visa subclass so you obtain the 60 points upon lodgment of “Expression of Interest”.
If you apply for State Sponsorship (which has to be approved by State Government or Territory) you must include your “Expression of Interest”.
Once the State Nomination is approved the points will be confirmed and an invitation will be issued by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
Each state in Australia has its own occupation in demand, so it is very important to check if your occupation is on the state list, and you must meet the state criteria at the time of the application of state nomination or otherwise your application will be rejected.
If you are unable to obtain enough points there are still ways to improve your tally, unfortunately you cannot change your age, but you can try and improve IELTS score, keep improving your skills and experience in your home country or maybe come to Australia on a Student visa and gaining Australian education which can also give you an extra point.
